| Description: | Oleksandra Serbenska. Ivan Franko's Conception of Relationship between Language and Spirituality. This study investigates Franko's conception of relationship between language and spirituality as represented in his writings. While studying the history of spiritual life of his people, Franko arrived at the conclusion that “language grows elementarily, along with the soul of the people”. He considered language to be a major instrument for shaping linguistic individualities and building up the nation's intellect. Franko showed the role played by intellectuals in preserving the spirit of the national language and defined the impulses securing its life. |
